EU may not prolong anti-Russian sanctions on different approaches
BRUSSELS, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- Different attitudes of the E.U. countries to economic sanctions against Russia may influence Brussels’ official stance and prevent prolongation of sanctions, Russian ambassador to the E.U. Vladimir Chizhov told PRIME on Friday.
“I think that polarization is a wrong term here, the truth is that there are various approaches of the E.U. member countries to the sanctions issue, which will in the end influence the E.U. official position,” Chizhov said after recent meetings of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
Chizhov reiterated that prolongation of sanctions against Russia requires consensus of E.U. countries.
There is no reason to expect either scaling-up, or an early repeal of the European sanctions until July, because none of these steps will be supported by all E.U. members, the official said.
